Questions Malibu Homeowners Ask Before They Call

Answers to real questions Malibu homeowners ask before calling: what we fix, how to reach us, which areas we cover, and who shows up at your door.

How fast can someone come look at a broken spring?

Call (424) 237-3741 and tell us what the door's doing - that call is how we figure out if it's a same-day fix or something that needs a part ordered first. We don't quote a universal response window because it depends on the part and the day, but we'll give you a straight answer on the phone, not a guess.

Do you cover Topanga or just Malibu itself?

Yes - Topanga is about 10 miles from our base and it's a regular stop for us, along with Westlake Village, Lake Sherwood, Oak Park, Hidden Hills, Bell Canyon, Santa Susana, Santa Rosa Valley, and Marina del Rey. Call and tell us where you are; if it's outside that range we'll say so up front.

My opener is original to the house - can it still be fixed?

Depends on the unit and what failed. A lot of homes in this area date to the 1967-1997 range, and plenty of original openers are still running on hardware from that era. If a replacement part is still available we'll repair it; if it's a dead motor with no parts supply left, replacement usually makes more financial sense than chasing it.

Do you handle the whole job including the door panels, or just openers?

Both. We work on the full system - springs, cables, rollers, tracks, panels, and openers. If your door needs a new opener but the panels and track are fine, we won't push a full replacement on you; we'll fix what's actually broken.

Is salt air near the coast actually a problem for garage door hardware?

It is, even with the mild temperate climate here softening the freeze-thaw issues other regions deal with. Marine humidity and salt exposure accelerate corrosion on springs, cables, and track hardware, especially on homes closer to the water. If your hardware looks rusted earlier than you'd expect, that's usually why.

What We Actually Do

We work on garage doors and openers - springs, cables, rollers, tracks, panels, and the motor units that drive them. Most of the houses we get called to around here went up between 1967 and 1997, with the bulk of that stock dating to the late 1970s. That means a lot of torsion springs and openers that are original or close to it, sized for door weights and hardware that were standard decades ago but aren't always what's on the shelf today.

We do repair work and replacement. If a spring is broken or a cable has frayed through, that's a repair call. If the door itself has taken damage - panels warped, track bent past true, an opener that's died and isn't worth feeding parts into - that's a replacement conversation, and we'll tell you straight which side of that line you're on.

One limitation worth saying plainly: we don't do custom fabrication or one-off architectural doors built to spec on-site. If a job needs a part ordered from a manufacturer and that part has a lead time, we'll tell you the lead time instead of guessing. The mild coastal climate here means we're not fighting the freeze-thaw damage you'd see inland, but salt air and marine humidity still take a toll on hardware, and that's a real factor in how we diagnose corrosion on springs and tracks.

Contacting Us

  1. Call (424) 237-3741

That's the number that reaches us directly - no call center routing, no app to download first. If you're trying to describe what's wrong before we get there, the basics help: does the door move at all, does it move partway and stop, is there a loud bang (usually a spring), or does the opener run but the door doesn't lift (often a cable or a slipped gear).

  2. Our shop address is 24955 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA 90265

That's a mailing and dispatch point, not a storefront you need to visit - we come to your garage, not the other way around. If you're calling about a dead opener and the door itself seems fine, mention that up front. It changes what gets loaded on the truck and can save a second trip.

The Areas We Cover

We run jobs through about a mile WNW of our base on PCH, and out to roughly 6 miles ENE about 8 miles WNW. Beyond that we cover Westlake Village (8 miles), Topanga (10 miles), Lake Sherwood (10 miles), Oak Park (11 miles), Hidden Hills (11 miles), Bell Canyon (13 miles), and we'll go as far as Santa Susana, Santa Rosa Valley (both 17 miles), and Marina del Rey (18 miles) depending on the job.

That's nine named areas total, and the housing across most of them follows the same pattern - mostly 1960s and '70s construction, which shapes what springs, track gauge, and opener mounts we expect to find before we even open the truck. If you're outside this list, call anyway; we can tell you quickly whether the drive makes sense for the job.

Who Does the Work

  1. The person who answers your call and the person who shows up are working from the same information

What you told us about the door, what the house stock in your area typically runs, and what's actually wrong once we're looking at it in person.

  2. We don't subcontract the diagnosis out to a call center that's reading from a script with no knowledge of the job

We size parts for the doors common to this area's housing stock rather than guessing off a generic chart, which matters more than it sounds like once you're dealing with a torsion spring rated for a specific door weight and width.

  3. Median household income in the service area runs well above $174,069

And we've found that translates to homeowners who'd rather pay for the right part once than a cheap one twice - so that's how we quote the job, not by cutting hardware specs to hit a lower number.
